In 2006, Hans Rey and Steve Peat did a weeklong campervan trip around Ireland, visiting 30 pubs and also doing a bit of bike riding. Hans had seen photos of the famous Cliffs of Moher that stand 200 metres over the Atlantic on the west of Ireland. He wanted to ride the small rocky ledge with a rock wall to one side and an empty void to the other; in places, there was less than eight inches for a wheel to roll along. The consequences of a mistake were about as serious as it gets. I was pretty scared of the idea, but Hans was 100% confident that he could do it safely and Steve was comfortable on the wider section behind. I was very happy to pull my head back in from the cliff edge when it was done.
